This is a P38
which is obviously an aeroplane type thing of WWII vintage (in fact the first Airfix kit I ever built!)
and this is a 38a
which is obviously isn't. The name 38a comes from the project code for the vehicle, which was derrived from the name of the ex-RAF building (Gaydon was an aerodrome before Leyland had it) which housed the project office.
That's not it in the photo by the way, that's the nice new shiny GDEC building at Gaydon
