This is a diesel fuel lift pump for Series II & III 2¼ engines.
The lever to left in the photo is for priming the injector pump should
air have got into the system, for example during a filter change or
if the vehicle has run out of fuel.
If no, or little, resistance is felt when attempting to prime the
fuel system it is possible that this unit has failed.
